August 13, 2013: MB Job Fair Opens Today

About 4,000 jobseekers are expected to flock to SM North EDSA Skydome today at the opening of Manila Bulletin’s 6th Job Fair.
With the theme, “Your First Day of Work Starts with Us,” the two-day event will feature 60 booths from 55 companies ranging from business process outsourcing (BPO)/call center, knowledge process outsourcing (KPO), real estate, retail, finance, construction, medical, engineering, and accounting industries, as well as overseas recruitment agencies.
Department of Labor and Employe Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz is expected to grace the opening program and give her message to the participants who will be lining up for possible employment.
MB Classifieds Advertising Vice President Lyne Abanilla will give the welcome remarks to be followed by the ceremonial ribbon-cutting.
In the afternoon, career talks from industry experts will provide jobseekers insights on how to become more successful employees.
Paradigms and Paradoxes Corporation Owner Mojie Ramos will discuss tips on “How to Prepare for Interview,” which include resume writing and interview. On the other hand, Vista Center for Professional Development President and CEO Ivy Rose Villanueva will give her insights on “Managing Transitions.” For college graduates, this means preparing one’s self for the corporate world while experienced employees will get advice on how to deal with shifting to another career.
On the second day, corporate etiquette and international protocol consultant Karina Crisostomo will share her tips in personality development and dressing up for a job with her talk topic “Power Dressing to Impress.” Lastly, TeleDevelopment Services Inc. Senior Training Manager Janet Jodloman will expound on the topic, “Are you BPO-Ready?”, discussing expectations about employment in this industry.
The 6th MB Job Fair has gotten tremendous support from various companies which included platinum sponsors IBM, Sykes, Convergys and AFNI.
Asked about the reason why they decided to partner with MB, AFNI Senior HR Manager Avegail Songco said, “We believe that Manila Bulletin still has a wider reach for applicants and trusted by most job seekers,” adding that “This is also our way to be known in the BPO industry since we’re just new.” AFNI is expecting to hire new employees for their Quezon City site.
As to her advice to jobseekers who will take part of the event, she said, “They should be confident and assertive.”
Aside from the partner companies, Manila Bulletin’s online job site, www.mbclassifiedjobs.com, will also have a booth where jobseekers can register for free and be included in the database for easier employment match-up in various local and international jobs.
