December 4, 2011: DoLE starts labor inspection moratorium

The Department of Labor and employment (DoLE) has started implementing a two-month moratorium on its regular labor inspections in time for the Christmas season.
Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said in a statement yesterday the measure aims to prevent any opportunity for DoLE labor inspectors to ask for bribes, solicit gifts or conduct any other forms of graft and corruption from the companies they may inspect during the Yuletide celebration.
The suspension is contained in Administration Order No. 490, series of 2011 and is in line with the administration’s campaign to conduct a credible labor inspection process.
Under AO No. 490, DoLE’s regional inspection on Training and Advisory Visits (TAV), Self-Assessment Activities and Labor Enforcement Action Program (LEAP) will be temporarily suspended until next year.
“The suspension will be in full effect for a two-month period starting 1 Dec. 2011 and ending on 31 Jan. 2012. The regular/routine inspection will commence on 1 Feb. 2012,” Baldoz said.
