  October 23, 2011: 451 workers in CV get P2 million assistance from DoLE

Cebu City, Cebu – some 451 workers in Central Visayas are set to benefit from a P2-milion livelihood assistance released by the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) to 10 community based enterprises (CBEs) in Cebu under the agency’s Integrated Livelihood Program (ILP).
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, who was in Cebu recently for the Visayas leg of the DoLE-Armed Force of the Philippines (AFP)-Labor Summit on Freedom of Association, said 451 workers will benefit from the P2,194,290 in livelihood assistance to CBE’s.
She said the DoLE envisions the creation of small and medium-sized community enterprises engaged in productive entrepreneurial activities and creating work opportunities for people in local communities.
“Under the principle of good stewardship, we expect you to make use of government’s scant financial resources wisely for the purpose they are being given – that is – ensuring that your small business will flourish to create and sustain employment and thus improve your socio-economic condition,” Baldoz said.
DILP assistance recipients include the Maguikay Women’s Organization, Inc. which received P200,000. The organization is engaged in catering services in Mandaue City and has 30 women member-workers.
Also recipients were the Guba Framers’ Association engaged in goat-raining in Brngy. Guba, Cebu City, with 29 farmer-beneficiaries which received P100,000; the Toong Volunteer Farmers’ Association, which operates a bakeshop in Brngy. Toong, Cebu City, and has 31 farmer-beneficiaries who got P200,000; and San Jose Livelihood Association engaged in food processing and catering services in Brngy. San Jose, La Libertad, Negros Oriental with 29 Informal workers who received P233,000; the Brngy. Liplong Small coconut Farmers’ Association producing virgin coconut oil and coconut by-products in Valencia, Negros Oriental with 130 coconut farmer-members who received P760,000.
