February 20, 2014: Bringing Decent Jobs To Filipinos

A large number of young Filipinos are being hired, often on-the-spot, throught the job fair network. Job fairs, also being called career expos, provide a venue where employees meet applicants to gauge their qualifications through interviews and other interactions.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) assisted by the private sector, is scheduling an initial 100 job fairs in seven Philippine regions for 2014. Job seekers may access the schedules at www.phil-jobnet.dole.gov.ph. there are many job vacancies that have to be filled up and there is a large number of jobseekers that have to be placed in the right jobs to match skills and competencies, DoLE said. Job fairs are more viable and economical venues to search for workers and to search for jobs, DoLE said. Apart from saving time, effort, and resources, jobseekers have the opportunity to apply to as many employers in one place, while employers will be able to pre-qualify and screen as many applicants immediately for job opportunities. DoLE job fairs are held in coordination with local government units and PESO network, and are supervised by Bureau of Local Employment and DoLE regional offices. DoLE ensures that job applicants are protected from illegal recruiters. Employers participating in job fairs are screened and validated. Private sector-organized job fairs are conducted with DoLE’s permission.
According to DoLE’s Statistical Performance Reporting System (SPRS), a total of 100,328 jobseekers were hired on the spot in 1,319 job fairs held from January to November, 2013, in 16 regions of the country. there were 2,928,794 job vacancies solicited from 21,399 employers and participating establishments. A total of 599,474 job applicants registered for the fairs.
We congratulate the Department of Labor and Employment headed by Secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz and Bureau of Local Employment Director Dominique R. Tutay, other Officers and Personnel, for their noteworthy project of holding employment facilitation activities that would give young people and graduates the chance to start a career in government or in private corporations for the best and success of the Filipino people in our Republic of the Philippines.
