January 8, 2014: DOLE Fast-Tracking 'Yolanda' Survivors Compensation Claim

The Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) will fast track the release of the employment compensation claims of the victims of super typhoon “Yolanda”.
DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said in a statement that she has already tasked the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC) to prioritize the processing of the claims of the typhoon survivors.
ECC is an attached agency of DoLE which issues compensation for workers who sustained sickness or injury while in the line of duty.
“The ECC has already committed to give the highest priority to employee-survivors of the typhoon and their dependents in the speedy and efficient facilitation of their employees’ compensation claims,” Baldoz said.
Baldoz said qualified applicants for the Employee Compensation Program (ECP) include soldiers, police, firemen, medical teams, and other members of the government disaster response team who assisted in the rescue and retrieval operations in the aftermath of typhoon “Yolanda”.
She said ECP will also apply for newscasters, public transport employees, personnel in relief missions, security guards, and even household service workers.
The program will provide the workers with financial assistance for the following cases: loss of income benefits; medical services; carer’s allowance, rehabilitation services, and death with funeral benefits.
ECP will be administered by ECC through the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and the Social Security System (SSS).
