October 14, 2013: MB Laguna Job Fair Brings Career Experts Together

Manila, Philippines — Do you have what it takes to be hired? What are the ways for you to sell or brand yourself? How would you know if the skills you have can open up new career opportunities for you? How do you stay happy at work?
The Manila Bulletin will try to provide answers to these questions as it brings together four career and personality development experts as part of the 6th MB Job Fair this coming October 15 to 16 at SM Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
On October 15, Enchanted Kingdom Corporate Communications and Education Program Head Carmel Tordesillas will discuss the different skills and qualities an applicant must possess to secure a job. Her topic will go beyond preparing and submitting a resume, and will equip the jobseekers the right tools to succeed in job hunting. Tordesillas has a master’s degree in Industrial Organization and writes for other publications as well.
Tordesillas will be followed by Ivy Rose Villanueva in the afternoon. Villanueva is the president and CEO of Vista Center for Professional Development. An MBA-holder at Ateneo Graduate School of Business, she will give insights on how to turn one’s expertise to a second career. Her talk is also for individuals who are contemplating on shifting to a different career as she gives pointers on how to make that effective transition.
Joining Tordesillas and Villanueva on the second day of the career expo are Fidel Eblasin, Jr. and Nancy Mendiola.
Eblasin will draw inspiration from his experience as the special assistant to the president of Yazaki Torres Manufacturing, Inc. in discussing how to stay happy at work. The president of PMAP CALABARZON chapter will emphasize how happiness affects performance and how applicants can look for jobs that will not only provide them good salary but will also bring them the contentment and belongingness they longed for.
Mendiola, on the other hand, will give tips on how a jobseeker can market himself to potential employers. An organizational development advisor, trainer, and facilitator at People Ignite, Mendiola will tackle personal branding that aims to give a jobseeker the right confidence to stand out among other applicants.
The Laguna job expo will bring work opportunities in the BPO, retail, recruitment, hospitality, manufacturing, I.T. and telecommunications coming from more than 30 participating companies. This is the third leg of this year’s job fair. The first two legs were held in August at SM Skydome and in September at SM Cebu.
This is the first time MB is bringing its career expo to Laguna, a province that has emerged as a center of electronic and semi-conductor companies.
The MB Job Fair Laguna is sponsored by Sykes and Convergys with event partners Sutherland Global Services, Medicard, Concentrix, Stream, PC Express, JGC Philippines, Uratex Foam, Flavors of China, and Sun Cellular. Its media partners include Tempo, Balita, ABS-CBN, GSAT Direct TV, YES FM,Chalk, ANC, When in Manila, 96.3 Easy Rock, Lifestyle Network, and Jeepney TV. It is supported by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), PhilHealth and PESO Sta. Rosa.
