October 6, 2013: Manila Bulletin Job Fair reaches out to Laguna

Manila, Philippines – Residents of Laguna seeking work opportunities may soon find themselves employed, with the holding of Manila Bulletin’s third and final leg of its 6th Classifieds Job Fair on October 15 to 16 at SM Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
With the theme, “Your First Day of Work Starts with Us,” the career expo will offer employment openings in business process outsourcing (BPO), retail, recruitment, hospitality, manufacturing, information technology (IT), and telecommunications from more than 30 participating companies.
This will be the first time the publication is bringing the job fair to Laguna, providing more Filipinos the opportunity to take part without traveling far and spending too much.
Last month, 103 people were employed in the job fair’s Cebu stop, while 453 applicants were hired on the spot out of the 3,000 jobseekers during the Manila leg last August.
“We thought of bringing this out of Metro Manila to reach out to both our partners and the jobseekers in the southern part,” said Manila Bulletin Vice President-Classified Advertising Lyne Abanilla.
Laguna is a province famous for its rich history, natural resources, and manufacturing industry. Aside from being the birthplace of the country’s national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, it has also emerged as a center of electronics and semi-conductor companies. The province also attracts tourists with its more than 700 hot spring resorts. Sta. Rosa City, on the other hand, is considered the investment capital of South Luzon and is positioning to be the next ICT hub in the country.
Twelve new companies will join the Laguna leg. These include Lenddo Lending Corporation; Multiflex RNC Philippines, Inc. (Uratex); Bizmates; Prime Mnapower; JGC Philippines, Inc.; Medicard Phils.; Amec Services Ltd.; Showa Aluminum Mfg. Phils. Corp.; Sutherland; Genpact Philippines LLC; Ever Bilena; and Alorica.
Abanilla is hoping that the Laguna expo will be as successful as the two previous legs. “And since October 15 has been declared as a regular holiday, we are expecting more applicants to join us,” she added.
The positive turnout of the Manila and Cebu legs has inspired the country’s leading newspaper to hold more job fairs next year.
“We’ll have more job fairs – we’ll do it in three cities in Manila and in four provinces,” Abanilla said.
As one of the major players in the print industry, Manila Bulletin has been able to come up with effective career expos.
“Being the leading newspaper in the country, especially in terms of classified ads, is an advantage for us since we can give our partners more exposure,” said Manila Bulletin Assistant Vice President- Classified Advertising Geronimo Montalban.
Manila Bulletin went out of the traditional print advertisement for the three-part job fair, making use of outdoor advertising such as LED screens and huge streamers and wrap around bus stickers. The publication’s online job site, www.mbclassifiedjobs.com, has also taken a more active participation in this year’s job expos. Through the online portal, jobseekers can also register and submit their resumés directly for employee match-up.
