  August 13, 2013: Concepcion Locals Prioritized for Jobs

Iloilo City, Iloilo — Natives of Concepcion, Iloilo will be prioritized in the construction of the P13-billion coal-fired power plant to be built here by the Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC).
PCPC president Roel de Castro gave this assurance during a recent presentation to the officials of the National Economic and Development Authority in Western Visayas (NEDA-6) and the Iloilo provincial government. of Iloilo.
Castro said that PCPC has urged its contractor NLSC to hire locals in the town. NLSC, which is a consortium of First Northeast Electric Power Engineering Corp. of China (NEPC), Liaoning Electric Power Survey & Design Institute and Shenyang Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. is the project’s preferred engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.
Approximately 174 laborers will be hired until December 2013 in constructing temporary facilities. PCPC and NLSC have been coordinating with the local government of Concepcion with regards manpower needs.
Castro added that the job generation for the construction of the 135-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant will be in the thousands. PCPC is targeting to augment projected power supply for the islands of Panay and Negros by 2016.
Also present were PCPC Chairman Walter Brown, provincial officials led by Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr., NEDA-6 regional director Ro-Ann Bacal, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-6) assistant regional director Jonathan Bulos.
