March 4, 2013: In-Demand Jobs Up At Manila Bulletin Fair

MANILA, Philippines --- The Manila Bulletin, the Philippines’ leading national newspaper, will hold its career fair for the fifth time, at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City on March 19-20, 2013.
Dubbed “The 5th Manila Bulletin Classifieds Job Fair,” the two-day expo will showcase careers with high demand and significance, carrying the momentum from the “Manila Bulletin Job Fair Extreme,” which was held at the Megatrade Hall of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City on November 12-13, 2012.
Bearing the slogan, “You’re on the Right Path,” around 4,000 participants are expected to troop to the upcoming expo, with more than 60 companies that will put up their recruitment booths, aiming to address the problem of mismatch between job applicants and the required competencies of the vacancies.
“We chose the slogan, basically because we exerted more effort for this particular job fair… What we’re trying to do is [for participants] to arrive at the right company, and the right job. We will be having exhibits on the needs of the job, and we try to match with the [vacant] positions,” Manila Bulletin Corporate Communications Head Raul Rodriguez said.
The main sectors featured will include business process outsourcing (BPO), manufacturing, hospitality and health, and medicine comprising the participating firms, hoping to fill up vacancies with candidates who can match the specific competencies that the jobs require.
In addition to the booths, the expo will also feature free seminars that will essentially capture how to hurdle the various corporate stages with flying colors, from being a successful job applicant to climbing the corporate ladder—topics which can be interesting and relevant to jobseekers.
Topics that will surely expose them to the realities of the corporate world are preparing for job interviews, knowing one’s perfect job, and employee matters, such as how to advance career, how to gain competence, and how to improve productivity and performance.
“We’ll also ask the participating companies to give freebies and some light gimmicks. We will be giving away lots of souvenir items, aside from what Manila Bulletin gives, and there will be on-site activities. [These are] aside from the important task of [employers] trying to look for their future employees,” Rodriguez added.
Aiming to share its modest contribution to the development of the country, the job fair is designed to help Filipinos find appropriate jobs.
