  February 28, 2013: Philippines Top 10 High-Paying Jobs

The "Labor Market Trends" prepared by the Bureau of Local Employment of the Department of Labor and Employment (BLE-DOLE) in December, 2012, listed the top 10 high-paying, in-demand jobs in the Philippines. BLE bared the list in anticipation of thousands of senior high school students who will graduate in March this year. The aim is to assist them in deciding on what course to take in college, with the list serving as guide. They are advised to choose courses that the labor market demands, not because they are popular courses.
The top 10 high-paying occupations - art director, geologist, aircraft pilot/navigator/flight engineer, mining/metallurgical engineer, computer programmer, systems analyst/designer, production supervisor/general foreman, actuarian, call center representative/customer service associate, and statistician - were determined by the BLE by identifying the median monthly basic pay and median monthly allowances of time-rate workers on full-time basis in non-agricultural establishments employing at least 20 persons in 65 industry groups in the Philippines. The salaries are not entry-level wages. The BLE study noted the compensation is obtained after years of work experience and after attaining some level of competency. Occupants of high-paying positions need to have bachelor's degrees related to the field.
DOLE advised graduating high school students, and the seniors following them to make wise and excellent career decisions, saying that they can help resolve the jobs and skills mismatch by pursuing courses and skills that would easily fit them into jobs or entrepreneurship opportunities in the labor market.
Data at BLE showed that the present Filipino workforce is composed of young, creative, and dynamic people. The agency urged even those unable to enroll in college to avail of technical-vocational courses as viable options. The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority offers scholarship-based programs that range from three to six months training period in contact center training.
We congratulate the Department of Labor and Employment, headed by Secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz, Undersecretary Danilo P. Cruz, Undersecretary Lourdes M. Trasmonte, Bureau of Labor Employment Director Criselda R. Sy, and the Technical Skills and Development Authority, led by Director General Joel J. Villanueva, in their program coordination to help upgrade the global competitiveness of the Filipino workforce. We wish them the best and success in all endeavors. CONGRATULATIONS AND MABUHAY!
