January 16, 2013: Increase In Job Vacancies Hailed

MANILA, Philippines --- Malacañang lauded on Tuesday the efforts of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for the increase in job vacancies posted at Philjobnet, the government’s official job portal, which posted higher number of job vacancies than job applicants.
“Since (DOLE) Secretary (Rosalinda) Baldoz took over the helm of the Department of Labor and Employment, she enhanced the services provided by Phil-Job Net to include job postings from skilled workers as well as legitimate employers,” Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said.
“Under her stewardship, DOLE has also expanded the website’s coverage to provide at least 100,000 job vacancies at any given time,” she added.
Based on the report submitted by the DOLE to President Aquino on the developments on the Philjobnet, the number of vacancies on the government website has 264,000 job vacancies while there are only more than 117,000 applicants.
“The number of vacancies is also at an all-time high compared to only an average of 40,000 a month as of July, 2010,” Valte said.
“We welcome this report from DOLE and look forward to their continuing development of the Phil-Job Net website into an even more responsive and inclusive tool for both job seekers and job matching, which redounds to the benefit of our countrymen,” Valte said.
Last year’s Labor Force Survey of the National Statistics Office (NSO) revealed that employment rate was at 93 percent as of July, 2012 while unemployment rate was only 7 percent.
