  January 3, 2013: Job Summit

The Global Filipino Diaspora Council (GFDC) is holding a summit in the Philippines in an aim to harness global Filipino talents to contribute to domestic jobs generation and economic development.
The GFDC together with the Commission on Filipino Overseas (CFO), a government agency, is gathering experts in health, science, engineering, law, manufacturing, business, public services, fashion, and arts. This is at the Global Summit of Filipinos in the Diaspora to be held on February 25 to 27, 2013 in Makati City
The GFDC has adopted a Ten-Point Action under its Diaspora to Development (D2D) program through which overseas Filipino workers (OFW) can participate in Philippine social development. The first five are on business advisory which will match OFW ventures with local business partners; Alay Dunong Program (Brain Gain) to enable technology transfer locally; Investments- new financial instruments where OFWs can invest in; Balik Turo- educational exchange; and diaspora philanthropy.
The last five are tourism initiatives—encourages migrant investments in tourism enterprises; global legal assistance program- to help legalize OFWs’ stay abroad; arts and culture exchange’ medical mission; and return and reintegration.
Dr. Samuel D. Bernal, GFDC co-founder and Medical City stem cell therapy expert, told a press briefing there are many sectors where OFWs can contribute to local jobs creation particularly in health services and pharmaceutical or drugs manufacturing.
Bernal just received last December 5 from President Benigno S. Aquino III the presidential award for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas (FIOO).
It is unfortunate, Bernal said, that for many years top Filipino talents all over the world have been working abroad on their own without the venue to link their talents here.
