Your Responsibilities

The Electron Microscopy Facility (EMF)at ISTA supports the vibrant international scientific community at the institute, with state-of-the-art cryo-EM infrastructure, covering single-particle analysis, ion-beam milling and cryo-electron tomography workflows. We are looking for a highly motivated person who will support EM facility users in the cryo-EM related tasks in a challenging international environment. This position is initially limited as a maternity leave replacement, but an extension of the contract can be discussed during the employment.

• Operate and maintain the cryo-EM equipment, including troubleshooting technical issues
• Monitoring of systems, regular system check including systems alignment to guarantee high-quality performance
• Conduct Training, assistance, on-site support and supervision of researchers
• Monitoring of compliance with rules to ensure all safety protocols and standard operating procedures are followed
• Active contribution to the methodology development of the EM facility

Your Profile

• Advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Structural Biology or Physics and/or proven high-end cryo-EM hands-on experience
• Practical experience in the following cryo-EM application areas: sample preparation, electron tomography and SPA data collection, cryo-EM data processing
• Strong computational skills, with a specific focus on cryo-EM related SW for data collection and processing
• Excellent team player that can also work independently
• High degree of reliability, organizational and interpersonal skills
• Service oriented approach towards researches in a multidisciplinary environment
• Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills in English
